Interested in living and studying with other first-year students who share similar interests? ÃÛÌÒav invites you to learn more about our Living Learning Communities (LLC). Features include:

• Live together in the University’s residence halls
• Share common courses in the fall and in the spring, with required out-of-class, experiential learning activities
• Benefit from a faculty mentor who encourages you to carry great classroom conversations into your residential community
• Participate in trips and activities designed to bring the community theme to life

All LLCs are located in our residence halls with access to:

• Smart classrooms that double as study areas
• Large common areas, complete with flat-screen TVs and pool tables
• Free, high-efficiency laundry units with electronic notifications on your phone
• Rooms designed to create unique, suite- or cluster-style spaces for a community feel
• Guidance to find the right next step in student housing as you prepare for your second year at SU

The courses listed are required for the LLCs; if a student has already completed a course through transfer, AP or IB, they should not request the LLC that requires the course. Credit by examination equivalency may be found at the Registrar's Office website.

Biomedical – LLC
This community serves biomedical students and students who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, genetic counseling, research, pharmacy and other medically related fields. Through fun and engaging activities, students learn that there is more to preparing for these careers than the classes that you take. Both in and outside of class, this is a great opportunity to connect and create your path to your biomedical career.

Early and Elementary Education – LLC
Elementary (ELED), early childhood (ECED) and dual certification (ECEL) majors connect with local education communities through volunteering, mentorship relationships and exploration of educational issues through field trips at the local and national level.

Environment and Sustainability – LLC
Students of any major can join this eco-friendly LLC where we are interested in all aspects of the environment, including climate, justice and sustainability. Students spend time exploring the Delmarva Peninsula, going on outdoor adventures, volunteering at events for local environmental organizations and meeting area environmental experts.

Esports - Special Interest Housing
Our Esports residential community is a great way for gamers of all platforms and experience levels to meet new friends who are interested in gaming, esports and more! Our Esports community offers access to the gaming lounge and membership in the Esports club. Esports SIH students will enjoy organized esports events and tournaments as well as be able to help design programs throughout the year! Students in this community will be placed in the same building in order to provide easier access to those with a gaming background or interest in mind.

Honors – LLC
Members of the Clarke Honors College may preference the Honors LLC (shared living and classes); however, it should be noted that admission into the CHC does not indicate acceptance into the Honors LLC. IMPACT - Special Interest Housing
Welcome to the IMPACT community, a special interest housing group designed for new college students and transfer students at ÃÛÌÒav who are passionate about multicultural, faith-based, LGBTQ+, and identity-based concepts. This community offers a supportive, dynamic, and inclusive space where students can explore their identities, build meaningful connections, and develop leadership skills that will serve them both personally and professionally.

Whether you are looking for a space to connect with peers who share your interests or seeking to broaden your understanding of diverse perspectives, this housing group is designed to empower students through advocacy, leadership, and community building. Join us in fostering a welcoming environment where you can be your authentic self while contributing to a culture of inclusivity and positive encouragement at ÃÛÌÒav.

Key Focus Areas:

• Multicultural & Identity-Based Awareness: Engage in deep discussions and activities centered around cultural diversity, identity exploration, and the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, faith, and more.
• Faith-Based Inclusivity: For students who seek to integrate their faith with their college experience, we foster an environment of respect and mutual understanding, promoting spiritual growth in a diverse community.
• LGBTQ+ Advocacy & Support: Build awareness, community, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ issues while creating a space of belonging and acceptance for all.
• Leadership & Professional Development: Enhance personal leadership skills through workshops, peer mentoring, and advocacy training. Learn how to lead with empathy, cultural competence, and a commitment to social justice.
• Peer Mentorship: Connect and provide mentorship for local k-12 students as well as fellow Sea Gulls who are seeking support navigating the exploration of their overlapping identities and the affects they have on their academics as well as their personal and professional development.  
• Collaborative Partnerships: This group will collaborate closely with ÃÛÌÒav’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, multicultural student organizations, and other departments like Career Services, Student Activities, Counseling Services, the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, and even The President’s Office to create a holistic environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) – LLC
Students in this LLC are pursuing exciting careers, from actuarial science to chemical engineering. Discover all the various science and technology-related opportunities at SU while enjoying fun activities like team building at a local ropes course and a visit to NASA Wallops Island.

Transfer – Special Interest Housing
Transferring to another University often times can be challenging as students transition to a new environment away from home while adjusting to the academic and social experiences associated with a new campus. Those living in this community will have the opportunity to make connections with others adjusting to ÃÛÌÒav. Programming during the first semester will have a community development and transition resource focus which is critical for success.

TRIO Scholars - Special Interest Housing
Designed to support first-generation and Pell-Grant recipients on their journey to academic success and graduation, this community fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where students can thrive academically, socially and personally. With a range of resources such as peer mentoring, personalized advising and academic development, we ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed. Join us in this dynamic, close-knit living space, where we celebrate individuality and empower each scholar to reach their fullest potential.

Visual Arts – LLC
Because artists know that real learning happens between the lines, this community of art majors and minors allows you to develop your passion beyond the classroom with trips to big city museums, personal interaction with visiting artists, and studio space dedicated solely to this group.

Wellness – LLC
Students in this LLC are interested in living a balanced lifestyle and many are pursuing health professions majors like exercise science, medical technology, public health, and respiratory therapy. With a holistic philosophy, this LLC promotes attention to mind, body, and spirit.

Fall: MATH 155 Modern Statistics with Computer Analysis

Spring: BIOL 215 Human Anatomy and Physiology

Recently, students in LLCs have:

• Attended Advocacy Day at the State House in Annapolis to learn about how social policy is created
• Recorded a song with the SU Recording Club
• Taken an overnight kayak trip down the Choptank River with writer/environmentalist Tom Horton, stopping to collect fossils along the way
• Visited a local organic farm to learn more about healthy food options and sustainable farming practices on the Eastern Shore

Research shows that students who participate in LLCs:

• Are more engaged in their academic experience
• Have extremely high satisfaction rates for their overall university experience
• Earn higher grades
