Works by Isabel Wells are showcased during the exhibit Veiled in Uncertainty
Isabel Wells is a senior graduating in Spring 2025 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, with a concentration in New Media. She is from both Delaware and Maryland, coming from a family who supported her artistic interest. She began mainly drawing as her creative output in late middle school, but began to explore other possibilities. In college, she began to explore the idea of using new and old technology to expand her abilities. The main source of inspiration for Isabel comes from the stories portrayed in all media and within her own life. Finding new ideas within music, movies, video games, books, and more. Through art and narratives, she aims to create a conversation for the viewer to explore who they are and where they are going.
Artist Statement
Ever since I was young, being able to escape the realities of our world and be transported to a new environment has been an important outlet. From hearing the news, reading magazines, and overhearing conversations that were too overwhelming, I always turned to a creative outlet to mute the noise. From then to now, I still use art to escape the reality I find myself in, from climate change to the political divide. I use art as a way to express my sentiments about these topics also, without having to encounter these tough conversations. Using figurative art, I aim to tell my statement and my opinions on challenging matters, as sometimes it is hard for us to share our experiences with others without judgment. Sometimes, however, it is hard to express these thoughts, as I am sometimes not completely sure how to. That’s what these paintings are to me, exploring thoughts or emotions I find hard to show others.
